Rosewood for Other Uses

We have varying quantities of top quality rosewood for sale, which we will dimension (or not) to your specifications. Call Launie at 250-664-6563, or . No order is too small.

Why do have rosewood for other (non-guitar) use?

Because we import whole logs and then cut them to the strict specifications required for musical instruments, we have a limited quantity of this beautiful and rare rosewood left over and available for other instrument use, carving, etc.

Sizes vary, and we recommend that we dimension to your specifications to ensure top-quality wood and your complete satisfaction.

We supply the highest quality of genuine S.E. Asian rosewood, which we source directly from our friends (licensed loggers and exporters) in Cambodia.

About Our Rosewood

Our specialty, dalbergia bariensis, is a natural, jungle wood (not plantation-grown) that is prized in Asian but is extremely uncommon in North America. Bariensis is a superb tonewood, equal to or better than other rosewoods. It is ideal for high-end guitars, mandolins and other musical instruments. We also carry dalbergia cochinchinensis, which is very similar, but somewhat more magenta (purplish) in color. (The latter is probably the S.E. Asian species that LMI carried for a few years.)

  • denser & harder than cocobolo or Brazilian
  • less oily than cocobolo or even Indian
  • more consistent than Madagascar
  • easy to bend and finish

some of our logs

This is a portion of our rosewood log inventory in our Victoria (BC, Canada) warehouse.

These logs are tough to get! Each is cut to a manageable length of roughly seven feet, and is then carried to a sort in the jungle, where the logs are laboriously loaded on trucks.

All our wood has been legally harvested & exported to us.

GAL Convention
Exhibiting at the GAL Convention was a great success. A typical comment was, "You don't see rosewood of this quality anymore". (But now you can!)

High Praise
This is definitely the highest quality of rosewood I've ever worked with. It's hard and strong, bends easily by hand, and looks beautiful when finished. I plan to use much more of this wood on future guitars.
