He has a solid background in manufacturing wood components for guitars and other stringed instruments.As General Manager of Timbre Tonewood, Ltd. from 1995 to 2000, he played a key role in developing and operating a factory producing guitar soundboards from world-renowned British Columbia Spruce and Cedar. During Launie's tenure as GM, Timbre Tonewood grew from only two workers in 1995 (Launie included) to a company of international status within a few short years. By 1998, the company employed 18 workers and each year shipped more than 100,000 guitar tops, plus thousands of cedar blocks (to be cut into guitar tops overseas) to major guitar factories world-wide. For more than 30 years, Launie Gratto has also worked part-time and full-time as a carpenter, furniture maker, refinisher, and renovator. He appreciates fine woods, enjoys working with them, and understands what motivates others to use the best of woods in the best of ways.
