This photo shows a 12 inch long block, 2 inches thick and approximately 5 inches wide (tall). The small board has been cut from the bottom of the block. The top of the block (and the small board) shows the quarter-sawn view, whereas the side of the block is the flatsawn surface.

The larger block has not been sanded or finished in any way. The small board has been sanded and waxed with a floor wax.

Keep in mind that the computer will not show the colour accurately, and that the color of the wood will darken over time if it is allowed to oxidize. (Consequently, the unfinished block will darken faster than the waxed board.) This is natural for rosewood and many other woods, and most people regard it as an attractive quality.
